Bio

Shay Sharon DMD, MD, PhD is a board-certified attending surgeon at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a principal investigator at the Laboratory of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hadassah Medical Center, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 

His basic and translational research is focused on the immunology of head and neck cancer for the development of personalized medicine. Specifically, his studies include:

Dr. Sharon has received extensive training in animal models for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, translational research and human tissue experiments, immune modulation and immunotherapy models, cell cultures, flow cytometry, and multiplex immunofluorescence. 

As a research fellow in head and neck cancer immunology at Providence Cancer Institute (2019, Portland, Oregon, USA), Dr. Sharon has established collaborations with Dr. Michael Gough and Dr. Bryan Bell. Together they are continuing their joint study of head and neck cancer. 

In the Faculty of Dental Medicine of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Prof. Nardy Caspi and Dr. Shay Sharon have ongoing collaborations with Prof. Nataly Kravchenko-Balasha to study head and neck heterogeneity by implementing biophysical models for the design of personalized medicine; and with Prof. Gabriel Nussbaum to investigate head and neck cancer microbiome to create patient-specific treatments.

In 2022 Dr. Sharon was accepted into the Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction Fellowship Program at Boston Medical Center and Boston University (Boston, Massachusetts, USA).

By combining his surgical and scientific skills, Dr. Sharon is devoted to implement a comprehensive approach to treat head and neck cancer patients by characterizing their immune environment and tailoring therapies individually.
